FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the VisuaLock work?

VisuaLock consists of two parts; a Security Cartridge that is placed into the chamber of the firearm, and a Security Rod that locks into the cartridge with a key. With the VisuaLock in place, live ammunition cannot be loaded into the chamber. To remove is simple, quarter turn with the key and, cycle the firearm and the firearm is clear. Watch the Demo.

What types of firearms will it work with?

VisuaLock will fit any firearm, semi-automatics, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.

What calibers are available?

From the obscure to most common, VisuaLock is able to make any caliber for any firearm. Currently there are over 130 different calibers available, but custom caliber can be produced upon request.

Is the lock caliber specific?

Yes. VisuaLock will only work in a firearm of the same caliber of its model.

Where can I buy one?

Local sporting good stores, firearm dealers, large retail chains and various online stores are all able to resell VisuaLock. To find a list of dealers near you visit our Dealer Locator page.  VisuaLock is approved in all 50 states, including Maryland, Massachusetts and California. If you have trouble purchasing a VisuaLock from a local reseller, please feel free to purchase one from VisuaLock direct at www.visualock.com.

How does it fit different barrel lengths?

Each VisuaLock comes with a set of extension rods that allow the device to fit barrels 2” in length up to 36” inches and beyond. The standard handgun models fit 2-10”; rifles 8-26” and shotguns 8-36”. Miscellaneous 10” extension rods can be purchased individually for lengthy barrels.

What do the V and P stipulate?

The VisuaLock rods come in two different sizes, Model P for the large calibers (380Auto and larger) and Model V for the smaller calibers (32ACP and smaller). VisuaLock denotes the different models on each lock so customers will know which size to select when purchasing a 10” extension rod.

What materials are they made from?

VisuaLock rods are made from stainless steel and the cartridges from solid brass. The steel is hardened to withstand California Department of Justice testing. In addition, VisuaLocks also have a neoprene washer towards the tip to protect the crowning of the barrel from damage.

Does it use a key?

Yes. To lock or unlock the firearm the VisuaLock key is needed. The key is standard over all of the locks. So if you have multiple firearms, the one key will fit them all. No more searching for the right key for the right lock.

What if I lose my key?

Replacement keys are available. Because the VisuaLock key is standard over all the locks, the one key type will fit them all.

Can the firearm be dry fired with the lock in place?

Yes. The VisuaLock security cartridge is made from brass, which allows the firearm to be dry fired without damage to the firing pin. It doubles as a snap cap!

If the action is cycled on a pistol, will the extractor be damaged?

No. The security cartridge is made from brass which is a softer material than the extractors in firearms. The security cartridge is designed to fail before the firearm is damaged (NOTE: the brass cartridge can withstand over 500 lbs of pull). The VisuaLock also prohibits the cycling of the firearm.

What does it cost?

From VisuaLock direct: Handguns $20, Rifles $22, Shotguns $24. Better pricing can be obtained by going through one of your local dealers.

Are there volume discounts?

VisuaLock does offer volume discounts to agencies, organizations and resellers. To get a pricing guide, please email info@ visualock.com.

Can the VisuaLock be removed without a key if I disassembled my firearm?

No. Whether you remove the slide or remove the barrel completely, the VisuaLock stays in place. Due to its spring loaded feature, the VisuaLock remains in the barrel of the firearm for both pistols and shotguns, until you use the key to remove it.
