VisuaLock goes through rigorous testing to be an approved device for resell.

 

 

 

California Department of Justice Firearm Safety Devices Testing

 

PICKING TEST

1)  Key Locks

a)    2-minute picking using jumbo paper clip.

b)    2-minute picking using regular sized paper clip.

c)     2-minute picking using a screwdriver.

2)    Combination Locks      

a)    2-minute manipulation test.

Test is failed if combination is discovered or key is picked with the 2 minuets.          

 

FORCED REMOVAL

1)    They see if the device can be disabled through the partial destruction of the firearm with common household items. They attack the trigger, barrel or hammer spur.

Test is failed if device can be removed.

 

TENSILE TEST

1)    They try to pull device apart by slowly applying pressure up to 225 pounds of force.

Test is failed if device falls apart and doesn’t meet basic lock standards.

 

SHOCK TEST

1)    Drop a series of weights on device to see if it breaks. They drop each size five times.

Test is failed if device breaks.

 

SHACKLE OR CABLE CUTTING TEST

1)    They try to cut shackle using a special metal cutting blade.

2)    Apply 100 pounds of pressure with lineman’s pliers.

Test is failed if device breaks.

 

PLUG PULLING TEST

1)    They drill a screw into the cylinder of a key locking device and see if it can be defeated with a screwdriver.

Test fails if lock can be opened.

 

PLUG TORQUE TEST

1)    They put the device in a vice grip and insert a screwdriver into the keyhole to see if it can be defeated.

Test fails if lock can be opened.

 

SAWING TEST

Exposed components are sawed thru by either a machine or by hand.

1)    Machine- 2-minutes of sawing

2)    Hand- 120 cycles.

Test fails if lock can be defeated after sawing.

 

 

Safety device must pass all 8 tests.
